I enjoyed actually getting to see my classmate’s faces
during the web conferences. It is
really a cool thing to put a face to a name, which is something we lose in
online learning. In week 4’s web
conference, Dr. Jenkins talked a little about Fenwick English. He said that Fenwick made a
presentation of his book Education in the Age of Greed, which I found really
intriguing. Along with the
fact that we can’t see each other because we are not in a classroom when
participating in online learning, it is also difficult to collaborate when you
don’t see each other on a weekly basis.
Web conferences allow you to connect with other students and this class
has shown me an additional great way to allow my students or teachers to
collaborate, which is through the use of Google docs or Google drive.
The best thing about the web conference is that almost all
of the questions that I had got answered during this time. Sometimes, the assignments
for our classes change from year to year.
This makes it difficult to understand some of the requirements for the
course. Through the web
conference, the presenter has the opportunity to explain the hiccups that come
from not being able to communicate during class time. I also learned about BYOD, which means bring your own
device. This seems like a really
cool thing and I’d like to learn more about it. All the teachers at my school have been given tablets as
part of a 1 to 1 movement that has been implemented as a result of a bond being
passed. My biggest question about BYOD is how could it be used if I were on a
campus that did not have tablets on a 1 to 1 basis? I was able to create a list of about 20 web 2.0 tools that I
am looking forward to exploring over the next couple of weeks leading into the
start of a new school year.
I would like to have been able to attend a web conference
during this class. I think that it
would have been good to get to know my classmates, especially the ones in my
group. What I really liked about
this course overall was that we had the opportunity to communicate, collaborate
and work together through the use of Google. I really learned how to use a lot of really innovative tools
in a productive way. I can’t wait
to go back to school and share the new technology that I’ve learned how to use
during this course, and to get trained on our new tablets! Technology is great if you are willing
to put forth the time up front to make it a useful tool in the classroom.
